#Wonder 37
You thought you were the only one (3 mins)
Dear masterpiece,
Today's Wonder Note is ready to embrace you but before that happens completely, I'd like to speak into your atmosphere.
Whatever you feel right now, maybe heavy, maybe loud, you're not alone. Someone in their home, office or on a bus feels the same weight.
But if you are in your smile season, you're basking in the evidence of a good day. Please share that smile today.
So I've been away for over a month but I never stopped thinking about you or praying for you. I'm back and I'm glad to be here. God help my consistency. Thank you for your patience.
Now, this episode is for you.
Story story.
Four years ago, I learnt how to think and act better in relationships. I was a student in mentoring sessions, I read the Bible and was getting prepared to be an A student in my next relationship. If there was a degree assigned for my preparation, I'd be a Masters student.
Then it was time to execute what I had learnt and I started to struggle.
Attributes I genuinely believed would never be tagged to me began surfacing. It stunned me. I felt embarrassed. All that preparation and here I was, not doing as well as I thought I would.
I went back to my books, the Bible. I also went quiet.
Then I had a long, unexpected conversation with a friend. I never intended for it to go there. But somehow we ended up talking about relationships and the state of our hearts and somewhere in the middle of that conversation, I realized she was carrying something similar.
I wasn't the only one struggling with something I thought I had outgrown.
I know God loves me unconditionally. But sometimes I convince myself that certain mistakes are beneath me, especially after everything God has invested in my becoming. I should be further along. The conversation reminded me that growth doesn't make you immune. It just means God is still working, still saving, still very much present in the struggle.
I wasn't alone. And neither are you.
Reflect- You know where the shoe pinches
Have you been harsh with yourself about things you expected preparation to make you immune from?
Is there a struggle you've been sitting with in silence because you feel like you should be past it by now? What would it feel like to say it out loud to one safe person?
But as for me, I know that my Redeemer lives, and he will stand upon the earth at last.
Job 19:25
You're not alone
Preparation is not a guarantee that you won't struggle. It's proof that when you do, you won't be without resources.
God does not love you less in the seasons where you're still becoming. He was present in your preparation and He is present in your struggle. None of that is a surprise to Him.
God knows when you need to be reminded that you are not the only one and He is precise about the timing.
Takeaway
Is there someone in your life right now that God might be nudging you toward, not to perform vulnerability, but to find it?
If God has invested this much in your becoming, do you think He would abandon you at the exact moment the becoming gets hard?
Renew your mind
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you
And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you.
When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned,
Not shall the flame scorch you.
Isaiah 43:2
Speak with purpose
God, thank you. I'm grateful that your word over my life will never fail. The hard seasons of my life look like the end. I make mistakes, struggle with things I've been prepared to conquer but this is not how my story ends. The Holy Spirit will come upon me and the power of the Most High will overshadow me. And whatever I do, I do it for the glory of God. Amen.
Finally,
You're loved.
You're a masterpiece.
Cultivating intimacy and gratitude,
Oluwatobiloba Wonders.
